Delicate Multi Gemstone and Silver Necklace
This beautiful, classic sterling silver necklace in the Matl-Matilde style, carries natural Amethysts and natural Turquoise cabochons.
The Matl-Matilde name or style, refers to the Matl Taller established in 1935 by Matilde Poulat, who was a colleague of Diego Rivera at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City, and this necklace expresses her unique design and flair.
This out of the ordinary style is what many people relate to Mexican jewelry, and while it may be one of the most well known Mexican styles of expressive jewelry, it is only one of several looks including, importantly, those of Margot de Taxco and William Spratling, to name just a few of Taxco jewelers masters form the golden era of Silver jewelry making in Mexico.
I want to note that this necklace is not an original Matl-Matilde piece, but it is handcrafted by a very skilled artisan that still work in this fashion. Unfortunately, there are not many artisans creating these kind of pieces anymore. It is more and more difficult to find these fine artisans that know how to work this particular style.
And this is one of his creations.
As I mentioned before, this is a delicate necklace with a total weight of 31.2 grams. It carries a very decent weight of .925 sterling silver.
